Historical Map of Ontario Northland Railway route

While the local landscape has always been inviting it has not always been very accessible.  However, over time the connections between the Near North and the tourists in the south were improved and expanded.  While these improvements were primarily within the highways and railway infrastructure, in the late 1930's airports were added creating an entirely new means of accessing the area.  With these changes, the area became accessible to a whole new group of tourists who found their way to the Near North.
